Mind's Eye

2023

For years, I haven't been able to picture images in my head. When one’s asked to picture a sunny beach, or an apple, then they can (vividly or not) perceive it in space, through shapes, textures. Sometimes, this apple will be on a wooden desk. It will be red, and maybe this red will be textured, surrounded by yellow sparks. But that’s it, my brain just won’t adapt and let access to this mind’s eye.

They call it 𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘢 : some people are born with it, others develop it through time. I personally remember spending hours as a kid, reading stories until very late at night, just to spend more time in the worlds my mind would have created... but by growing up, came to things : the discovery that I can be seen through the eyes of others, and a 𝘕𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘢 𝘌63.

In the end, this is a project about images. Let's just quote Baudrillard. Let’s assume that if everything is a copy of a copy, and if images are always around so there's maybe no need for me to recall them inside. I no longer need my own simulations because life has been offering me enough. My memories are then shaped by sound, monthly playlists and conversations. Then, through this recollection of sounds that hold meaning and forgotten voice notes, let’s dig a little bit more into what the non-visual brain sounds like.

This project is a collaboration with Simon Magimel.
